Kids say the darnedest things don't they. Sometimes they pull the best ones out of their hats during their prayers. You know the kind of prayer that has you doing everything in your power to keep you from completely losing it! Our little Mason frequently comes up with some really good ones. The following is the most recent example: Mason usually says most of his prayers on his own, the usual stuff "thank you for my many blessings, thank you for my family, please bless the missionary's and that we will sleep good tonight, etc, etc, etc." Well he usually wants us to help him finish since he is afraid he may miss some important item. Last night was one of those nights. He finished with his portion and gave me the help me nudge. I told him to say thank you for the rain we have been receiving, he pulled back as if I had hit him or something and in one of those sassy arrogant kind of voices responded with "I AM NOT SAYING THAT" of course I asked why, to which he just looked at me angrily. I explained that without rain the farmers could not grow their crops, and all living things need water to survive. He continued to look at me sternly. I thought since he apparently is not worried about dying of thirst or starvation, maybe I would put it in a way that one of the SCOTT kids could understand. I said "You know that without rain the lakes and reservoirs will have no water in the summer and the mountains would have no snow in the winter". Mason got an alarmed look on his face and immediately bowed his head and said "THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN, AMEN." As I tucked him into his bed he smiled and said "I didn't realize rain was so important."
You gotta love those moments! I giggled on and off for the rest of the evening, thinking about that little guy and how we are shaping his perspective on life.
